14 Weeks Pregnant

in Everyday, Pregnancy on

It’s been a long week. Work has been crazy and my brain has mostly been fried. I have no pictures for you, but I’m going to make good on my weekly pregnancy updates promise, starting with 14 weeks. I’ll do better next week. Let’s get to it.

Previous Updates

I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester

First, all the pregnancy apps and comparisons say baby girl is the size of an apple at 14 weeks. This is highly misleading because a lot of apples weigh more than 3 ounces. Also, she’s shaped nothing like an apple. So, she’s the length of an apple.

Symptoms

I jinxed myself by telling people I was starting to feel less nauseated. I’ve been feeling distractingly awful from about 8am to 4pm again, except now, instead of solid blocks of nausea, I also occasionally become ravenously hungry. These periods are immediately followed by waves of intense nausea that makes me wish I hadn’t eaten anything.

Constipation is still very much a thing. A combination of senna and aloe water are helping, but I ran out of aloe water and Amazon is being slow with the delivery.

My skin has been breaking out like crazy since I was about 3.5 weeks. It’s finally (slowly) starting to calm down.

My boobs feel huge, but are way less itchy than the last few weeks.

I’m still sleeping around 8-9 hours a night and typically take a couple 2-3 hours naps between Friday evening and Sunday.

Food

Even though the actual prices are a bit higher, I’m pretty sure I save money by using Instacart to get our groceries most of the time. I swung by the store to grab a few things that weren’t on Instacart this week, and impulse-bought Twizzlers, a few kinds of chocolate, kettle chips, and a bunch of fruit in addition to the steak and salmon we needed. I’ve also barely touched my impulse buys outside of the blueberries and grapes.

But anyway, I’ve mostly been eating normally, with the addition of a bedtime snack most nights.

Exercise

I’ve been following the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide since I was about 6 weeks pregnant and enjoying it quite a bit, even thought it’s a pretty different than how I usually lift. I modify most of the dumbbell movements to use a barbell, kettlebells, or some small plates, since we don’t have dumbbells, and it works great.

In the first trimester, I wasn’t great about the flexibility and pelvic floor exercises, which are the whole reason I bought the program. Oops. I’m prioritizing it moving forward, though!

Since the program is only 3 days a week, I’ve been filling in 2-3 other days with quick, more intense lifts and yoga and walking/running with the dogs.

Stories

I got all weepy over a show on Sunday morning, and Ben came over and curled up on my stomach. He’s acted like he knows something’s up since I found out I was pregnant. My little buddy.

I wish I could use pregnancy as my excuse for my random grocery store buys but no such luck. I am just a random grocery shopper. lol! Does your husband enjoy the random buys? Have you heard more on your return to office yet? They finally made the official return to office announcement at my bank this week and a number of folks are very frustrated. I am thankful that I will be remaining remote. Any big plans for the coming weekend? It is going to be HOT here in MN. 90s all weekend. Yikes!
