Day in the Life #8

in Everyday on

It’s time for another glimpse into my everyday! This time, let’s look at what Tuesdays look like in my world.

5:02 am – Wake up. I went to bed before 10 pm Monday night, so I actually woke up feeling pretty well-rested. This is unusual, but I’ll take it. I wish I could go to bed that early every night. I pull my hair back and put on workout clothes.

5:24 am – Head to the dorm basement and work out.

6:05 am – Stretch! My legs and hips are feeling pretty tight, and I have a lot of extra time this morning.

stretch

6:20 am – Stop and vow to stretch more. Pigeon pose didn’t used to hurt quite so much. Go back upstairs, get my shower stuff, and go take a shower.

6:41 am – Get out and attempt to finish off my bottle of lotion. I love Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion, but so many of the bottles I’ve had don’t have properly functioning pumps, so I’m left scraping the lotion off the little tube that’s supposed to pump it into your hand. Finally, I get as much out as I can and throw away the defective bottle. It’s a very satisfying moment.

6:56 am – Do my hair and makeup.

7:18 am – Make my bed and procrastinate a little by scrolling through Instagram and get dressed.

7:38 am – Throw together breakfast.

breakfast

{Vanilla Greek yogurt, bran, banana}

I eat while chatting with one of my roommates and her visiting sister and reading blogs.

8:46 am – Leave for econ.

saieh

{A beautiful, terrifying building}

9:04 am – Econ starts a couple minutes late, as usual, since the professor thinks 9 am is too early for a class. We talk about the basics of game theory and Sebastien tries to explain how it relates to the characteristics of an ideal couple. More standardly, we talk about the prisoner’s dilemma.

10:20 am – Econ ends. I head to the bookstore to buy blue books (which are now green because they’re recycled) for my IR exam on Thursday.

10:52 am – Get back to the dorm. My friend tries to convince me to come downstairs and do work with her. I reject this suggestion, since I know I can’t read properly around people. I go up to my room and eat a handful of almonds to convince myself I can do some reading before I have to make lunch.

11:04 am – I read the assigned section of Marx and try to wrap my head around exchange-value vs. use-value.

puppy and marx

{The puppy was encouraging me}

11:56 am – Hesitantly finish the 10 pages I was reading. Continue to ponder Marx while I cook a sweet potato in the microwave. There’ve been someone’s dishes sitting in the sink for three days. This is the type of thing that drives me crazy, and in the amount of time it takes my sweet potato to cook, I’ve washed them all. I put most of them away while I wait for it to cool.

12:17 pm – Sit down to eat lunch, answer emails, and relax a bit.

lunch

{Turkey, peppers, pistachios, sweet potato, cheese}

12:53 pm – Eat some plain Greek yogurt and start this post.

1:16 pm – Leave for IR.

1:30 pm – IR starts right on time, as always. We talk about asymmetric wars and terrorism, and I think way too hard about how messed up the world really is.

2:54 pm – IR ends. We have a midterm I’m not really looking forward to on Thursday. I walk back to the dorm.

3:22 pm – Sit down with a snack.

afternoon snack

{Vanilla Siggi’s, Cinnamon Chex, and an on-sale Honeycrisp}

I plan to give myself about 40 minutes to not do work. It turns into a little over an hour. Such is life. Make myself some tea.

tea

4:30 pm – Finish a Spanish assignment for Thursday.

4:57 pm – Review some of the many (many) readings for my IR midterm.

5;46 pm – Make dinner. Talk to roommates about midterms, the Ivies, and the dean’s list.

6:12 pm – Sit down to eat.

pretzel crusted tilapia and brussels

{Pretzel-crusted fish and mustardy Brussels sprouts}

Also, to study a little more.

6:35 pm – Grab a handful of cashews and an English muffin before heading to my SWS meeting.

7:00 pm – SWS meeting. We talk about the Kraft-Heinz merger and the impending SABMiller and AB InBev deal. And Greece. And China. We talk about a lot of things.

8:07 pm – Meeting is over. Commiserate with another second year about how we aren’t capable of planning more than a day ahead at this point. Also, about how we need to plan out the summer and the rest of our lives. That’s what it feels like, at least.

8:31 pm – Sit down with a snack. No picture because I was really hungry. Picture a big Honeycrisp, a couple clementines, plain Greek yogurt, a blob of cranberry sesame peanut butter, an English muffin, more Cinnamon Chex, and some toast. Write most of this post.

9:45 pm – I have a council meeting that I don’t want to go to. I go anyway. It lasts about a half an hour, and I’m itching to leave. (The backstory is that I agreed to join this out of the desperate need for any person to do it last year. And then I magically became president.) I run into one of the administrators on my way back to my room and we chat a little. He makes me feel a little better about and gives me hope that maybe we can make the group a little more successful and purposeful.

10:32 pm – I’m not super hungry, but I need more food. I have a few pumpkin bars and another English muffin, and down a bottle of water while finishing this up.

11:00 pm – Decide to call my mom to blow off a little steam about the meeting. She’s probably in bed, but she said I could if it would help me sleep, so I do.

11:07 pm – Bedtime, at long last. Honestly, the moment I lie down is one of my favorite times of every day. ?

How was your Tuesday?

    That’s a really long Tuesday! You should have snuck in a nap 🙂 Tuesday is my least favorite day of the week so I’m always glad when it’s over.

      I feel like the week goes quickly after Tuesday, but Tuesday definitely drags!

    Love your day in the life posts, like usual! Love honey crisp apples and Siggi’s 🙂

      Honeycrisps were somehow cheaper than every other brand of apple this week, so I definitely took advantage of that!

      I feel like my weeks are frontloaded, usually; everything is on Monday and Tuesday and then it gets a little calmer 🙂

    Your breakfast is so cute, was the smiley face on purpose?:)
    My tuesday was pretty ok, I worked for all of it, but I don’t mind work too much!

      The smiley was indeed intentional 🙂
      It’s good that you like your work!

    I’ve fallen out of the habit of stretching too. I really should get back into it! Love that you called your mom when you were feeling stressed. Moms are incredible in always knowing what to say. <3

    That seems like such a long day! And I need to stretch more too – I was so good at it last week and then slacking this week.

      It’s so weird to look back on it. It seems like an average day, but I guess it did turn out to be rather long. I guess you just do what you have to do! Good news is that I generally don’t mind most of the stuff I have to do!

    Bless you for picking up the president’s role and I hope its something that you can get a bit of interest out of rather than it being a complete chore.
    I love mustard and Brussels sprouts separately but have never tried them as a combo- after seeing your dinner photo though, this will probably change soon!

    I love your idea of Brussels + mustard!! Don’t know why I didn’t think of that flavor combo before, but genius! Definitely trying that!

    I had a very productive Tuesday. I stayed home after a week+ of going to the hospital all day every day with my granddad to be with my grandma in ICU. It was super-hard being at home and not knowing how she was doing and getting to see her, but I caught up on the week’s worth of laundry and got a lot of cooking done.

    …This sounds like my mondays and wednesdays! Both of which are packed with classes and meetings until 7 p.m. at night! I’m loving all the yummy snacks that you seem to be munching on throughout the day! Especially the honey crisp apples – as like everyone else – they are my favorite!
    Hope you have an amazing, relaxing, weekend!
