Five Friday Favorites 01/15/16

in Five Friday Favorites on

Happy Friday! Did you have a good week? Are you finding a routine as we get a little farther into the new year? I certainly am, and it feels nice. Sure, the week has been more than a little hectic, but many of them just are.

Anyway, I don’t have that many new things to share in the way of favorites for the week. It’s been a week of old, familiar things that are comforting. Lots of peanut butter, quiche and soup, tea, ham with cheese, chocolate, chats with friends, and Diet Coke. Stuff you’ve seen before. So instead, I’m going to share some favorite things I’ve read and seen and want to make. Sound good? Cool. Click on the links and photos to be taken to the original source.

  • 4 ways to Fight Secondhand Stress

If you ever find yourself getting stressed out because other people are stressed out – and you probably do – read this. You don’t have to take on other people’s problems.

  • Roasted Garlic and White Bean Lasagna Soup

Lasagna-Soup-4

I don’t think Lindsay ever has a recipe I don’t want to make immediately. Roasted garlic is one of my favorite things ever. It’s so buttery and totally melts in your mouth. And look at the cheese! Perfect healthyish winter comfort food.

  • 7 Common Nutrition Myths

Speaking of healthy… Fat isn’t bad for you, and neither are eggs or white potatoes. Don’t go to any diet extremes. Eat mostly whole food, but also eat dessert and bread and all that. Eat things that make your body and your soul happy or you’ll probably: 1.) go crazy, and 2.) overdo it on all the things you wanted to avoid. I love Anne’s approach to healthy. (Also, Robyn’s!)

  • Daniel Radcliffe’s tribute to Alan Rickman

I’ve seen him act magnificently in several roles, but I grew up on the Harry Potter franchise and always adored Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Snape. He brought the perfect humor and mystery to the complex character. It’s always nice to hear that such talented people are thought of as good people, as well.

  • Maple-Roasted Blueberry Almond OatmealMaple-Roasted-Blueberry-Almond-Oatmeal-6

Love, love, love this idea! There’s not a ton of added sugar and the almonds and chia seeds add some fat and protein, so you won’t crash immediately after breakfast, but you still get the awesome sweet flavor of the maple syrup and blueberries. I’d never have thought to roast the blueberries. Genius. Breakfast tomorrow?

And that’s all for me for now!

What’s your favorite kind of soup?

What are you loving this week?

I was really sad yesterday hearing about the passing of Alan Rickman. He was such a talented actor and I enjoyed every movie he was in. I think my favorite soup is tomato bisque (because it goes with grilled cheese duh) but on Monday I had a fabulous split pea soup that knocked my socks off! I used to hate split pea soup, but my mind was changed. I can’t say it’s my favorite, but it’s up there for sure. Have a great weekend!

Can you believe I’ve never had tomato soup with grilled cheese? I always used to have a vegetable soup with it when I was little. Granted, it was a tomato-based soup, but never actual tomato soup. Crazy. And I’ve also never had split pea! Sounds like I have some soup-tasting to do. Have a lovely weekend, Ellie!

I’m with you on roasted garlic – give it ALL to me. I’d be lying if I said I’ve never roasted a head of garlic before with no intention to use i in anything. Other than as a snack. No shame.

That sounds incredible! I went to a restaurant once and they gave us a head of roasted garlic in place of butter for the bread. So. Good.

My favorite soup…probably caramelized onion and mushroom soup!! Served with cheese, it’s like French Onion Soup taken up a notch! Though I do also love any number of puréed soups. They just speak creamy, comfort food to me. ??

that oatmeal looks amazing! I’m craving berries like crazy right now which is not that great since they’re not in season and SO expensive to find organic! I almost bought strawberries today at Whole Foods then noticed they were $8.99 for a small package! Insane!

Craziness! They’re definitely not as abundant or cheap as in the summer, that’s for sure!
