Five Friday Favorites 04/07/17

in Five Friday Favorites on

Hey there! Happy Friday! What’s on your weekend agenda? I’ll be reading, baking, writing, and relaxing, and I’m excited. Also, I think the weather is supposed to be nice, so that’s awesome after so much gray-ness and blustery rainy weather. Like, I could sit outside and do my reading. What a concept. What are you up to this weekend? I’d love to hear about it! But before we get to that, let’s take a look at some of our favorites from the week. Sound good? Let’d do it.

Grace and Frankie

Meet my latest Netflix obsession. Remember how I was a little embarrassed of my love for Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce? Well, I’m a little embarrassed about this one, too. But it’s so funny and heartwarming. Basic premise: two families very close to each other get their lives turned upside down when it turns out that the two husbands are in love with each other. The focus is on the wives, uptight Grace and hippie-dippy Frankie, but you get lots of their ex-husbands and their kids, and I just find it fun. We all need fun shows. Highly recommend. Plus, the episodes are short, so it doesn’t feel like watching it is a huge time commitment.

Banana muffins

favorites banana muffins

I bought some cheap, overripe bananas last weekend because I wanted to bake banana something. What happened were these fluffy chocolate chip muffins. I’ve been eating them all week and I need to find more icky bananas this weekend because I want more.

P.S. That is the best my nails have looked after taking off a gel manicure in ages. Usually they’re horribly roughed up for at least two weeks and basically only my thumbs have slight scuff marks. Very proud of my peeling skills. And very ready to paint my nails again.

The Magic Weighted Blanket

A few weeks ago, I extolled the virtues of the magic weighted blanket my mom got in my Instagram stories. She then gave it to me. She was willing to wait a couple more weeks to get another one for herself (they take forever to ship), just so I could have it to take back to school with me. THE NICENESS.

Anyway, to recap: this is a big blanket that feels like a hug. Mine is the chocolate dot minky blanket and it weighs about 15 pounds. Putting it on just relaxes me.

My cilantro plant

When my dad and I were grocery shopping before I came back to school, I wanted cilantro (because I put it on lots of things). A plant caught my eye, so instead of getting a bunch of cilantro, I got my own cilantro plant. One of my roommate’s friends had already given me a basil plant, so I figured why not keep two things alive?

Well, the cilantro plant is the winner because the basil plant pretty much died over spring break. We gave it access to water and semi-light, but it is now shriveled and it’s unclear why. The cilantro plant is alive and well, and it’s pretty awesome to be able to just walk over to the window and pull off some leaves for dinner.

Adultish shirt

favorites adultish

My grandma sent me this shirt, and it pretty accurately describes my current state. I can take care of myself and a plant (and maybe a dog), but there will be struggles.

And with that, I’m off to class and onto my weekend. I’ll talk to you next week!

Your turn:

What TV show are you loving lately?

Do you have a green thumb?

What are you loving this week?

I love Grace and Frankie (so many of my favorite actors) and I love banana muffins! Though I am having to limit myself because I went.. er… bananas on them. I really hope it is as nice as they are saying it is going to be this weekend. Though I’m not really sure I know how to be outside anymore.

Love that shirt! 🙂 That show has been on my list to watch. My mom told me about it and loved it! And I’m totally the same way with gel mani’s – my nails look no bueno for a couple weeks after I peel them polish off!

I’ve heard some pretty cool things about weighted blankets; they sound really comfy and comforting. 🙂 Also, that shirt. I need it too. 😀 I think I’ll feel like that for the rest of my life.

My grandma said it was at a little local shop. But I’m sure the internet would yield similar results!

I’m loving Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model lately. And uber ripe bananas are like a baker’s secret weapon! No big plans for me this weekend. Just some R&R.

I love that shirt! I’ve been on a huge netflix kick. Right now I’m watching bloodline and bates motel, then I want to start 13 reasons why!

A few years ago I watched the first season of Gracie and Frankie and loved it! Absolutely loved it! It was hilarious, plus it was fun to watch with my parents who knew the actors from previous work. But I totally forgot about it. Maybe I’ll pick it back up over summer!

I NEED that weighted blanket. I may or may not have just sent that link to my boyfriend. Hehe.

Currently, I don’t have a green thumb, but I do hope to have one at some point in my life.

Have a beautiful weekend, Ellen. 🙂

Highly recommend starting up again! It never fails to make me smile.

I joke you get your blanket! ?

Again: love and need that shirt. And I’m so excited to start an herb garden on our back deck when we move into our apartment in June! I love love love to garden–I don’t know if that necessarily means I have a green thumb, but I’m pretty good at not killing plants. 😛

I mean, not killing them is definitely a good thing!

That weighted blanket sounds so cozy and wonderful! I need one of those for winter!

Haha maybe I should ship you mine for my summer… but it’d probably cost more than the blanket itself ?
