Five Friday Favorites 09/30/16

in Five Friday Favorites on

Happy Friday! It’s been a good week, but I am quite exhausted. Yesterday was a day of constant hunger and making lots of progress on my to-do list. Pajamas and parking on my bed with work happened around 5:30pm. I foresee another relaxed-but-productive day today and a pretty good weekend. Let’s kick it off on a good note by looking back at some of our favorite things from the week!

Friday Night Lights

When I had wi-fi this past weekend, I decided to start watching Friday Night Lights. I had heard of it in the past, but never really felt inclined to watch. I was listening to The Federalist over the weekend, though, and someone mentioned it. I figured I could give it a shot. And I LOVED it. I’ve said it before, but I’m not one to get hooked on new TV shows easily. I was crazy about this one about 15 minutes into the first episode.

This is about 90% of the reason I’m annoyed about my wi-fi. See, I can use my phone’s hotspot to get regular internet in my room, but that uses data. It uses a relatively reasonable amount of data. However, streaming a TV shows uses an exorbitant amount of data. Sooo, no Friday Night Lights for me. But if you have wi-fi, I highly recommend it!

Kitchfix waffles

favorites-kitchfix

On a recent Whole Foods trip, I discovered Kitchfix freezer waffles (and granola). They’re both Paleo and fabulous. I’ve piled a Banana-Almond waffle with pumpkin, almond butter, coconut, and cacao nibs for a dessert-like breakfast. Also, before my three-hour Financial Accounting class on Wednesday, I spread one with sunflower seed butter, then sprinkled it with coconut and pressed 90% dark chocolate on top. It was melty and glorious and powered me through the lecture. I totally recommend these.

Running(ish)

After having felt really good over the past few weeks and technically getting the okay from a doctor, I decided to incorporate running back into my routine – slowly. I’ve started with just a minute or two of running alternated with two to five minutes of walking, but it feels really good and I love it. Baby steps!

Tea

favorites tea

My tea stash is actually more extensive than my nut butter stash – ten types of tea and “only” seven types of nut butter. The thought of drinking hot tea when I’m already hot (so, all summer) is wholly unappealing, and I’m not a huge fan of iced tea. The mornings have been a little chillier this week, though, so I’ve been enjoying a mug or two of tea before class and it makes me so happy. It’s the little things.

Good Day Chocolates

favorites-1

Before I came to Chicago, my mom and I went on several grocery store stock-ups. One was to Whole Foods, where they were sampling Good Day Chocolates. While I’m a dark chocolate person and therefore love the Energy variety, my favorites are actually the Calm ones because they have L-Theanine. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you about my enormous love for L-Theanine, but I could write an entire post on it. Simply, most of the time it takes the edge off of my day to day stress and allows me to sleep rather than run through a laundry list of anxieties and to-dos in my head. These are little bites of tasty chocolate about the size of a peanut M&M and they add a little extra “chill” if I’m feeling anxious.

And that’s all for me for the week month! I’ll see you back on Monday for the Brussels sprouts link-up of the Autumn Produce Challenge. Have a lovely weekend!

Life's better with @Kitchfix waffles, @GoodDayChoc, and a stash of tea. #fitfluential #bgbcommunity Share on X

Your turn:

What are your favorite waffle toppings?

Any exciting weekend plans? Apple picking and yoga for me!

What are you loving this week?

Note: none of this is sponsored. I just really like these things and they’ve made my week a little better, and I hope that if something jumps out at you, you give it a shot and maybe it makes your day/week/month/life a little better, too.

It’s weird how I’ve totally switched form my ICED everything (coffee, tea, etc) addiction to now HOT everything! I’ve been going through boxes of tea like nothing else! Haha!

Haha, I saw your IG story and I was like, “Is that chocolate on a waffle?” Yes, it was! That sounds amazing. I’ve been enjoying lots of tea, too, lately! My favorite right now is cinnamon spice. What’s yours? 🙂

This weekend is apple-picking and out to breakfast with my dad, stepmom, and little brother who are coming down tomorrow!

It sounds weird, but once the chocolate melts, it totally works ?
My favorite tea…tough. I love vanilla caramel and coconut chai, but if I’m going uncaffeinated, cinnamon apple spice!

Oh! And I went apple picking this weekend, too! I hope you had a lovely time ?

Those chocolates sound completely necessary in my life now that I’m back at school! And those waffles look amazing, definitely quick morning breakfast inspo! I’m going to have to grab some to save me from my cereal rut!

Chocolate on waffles sounds delicious. I usually do a little almond butter and a splash of maple syrup. Hope you have a relaxing weekend, I need to catch up on a little R&R too.

Nothing like real maple syrup ?

Aren’t those days of ‘relaxing’ work so important? I’m glad that you got to rest and relax and get stuff done while resting after a really busy week. I’m so thankful that God gives our family times to rest especially on the weekend; He is an amazing Father!

I love how you put chocolate on the waffle; it sounded like a really tasty snack.

And I watched your Instagram story about how you were so grateful to run for 2-5 minutes. IT really put into perspective the ‘I get to run’ not ‘I have to run’ for me.

Being able to do work calmly and in a cozy way is amazing.
Honestly, sometimes I say things like that out loud in order to believe them. It gets frustrating when everyone (it feels) is running so much and “all” I can do is a few consecutive minutes, but it’s progress and it’s wonderful.

This just proves is CHOCOLATE ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MEDICINE! 😉

I loveee tea too and have a bit of a ridiculous collection. I still drink tea in the summer too – but only in the mornings, inside 😛
