Five Friday Favorites 11/11/16

in Five Friday Favorites on

It’s 11/11! Make a wish – preferably at 11:11. 🙂 It’s also Friday, and I’m pretty sure we could all use a weekend right now, right? Right.

Before we get into talking about the good things from the week, I want to address a comment from yesterday. If you found my comments regarding the election flippant or my talking about the things I’ve thought about this week other than the election insensitive, I’m sorry and I hope you’ll tell me. Please know that I do indeed have a lot of thoughts about what’s happened this week, but that’s really not what I want to share here. What I think right now is that the world could use a little more positivity and that is what I want to share. Erin says it well here.

And now I want to tell you about some of the best parts of my week. I hope you’ll join me in the comments.

Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins

favorites Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins | These ridiculously soft, satisfying muffins are high in protein, low in sugar, and have the perfect balance of rich chocolate and spicy pumpkin flavor. They’re a great anytime pick-me-up. | www.myuncommoneveryday.com

It feels a little wrong to make one of my own recipes a favorite, but these are SO GOOD. And I just ate the last one from the freezer. I promise you want to make them! Weekends are meant for baking. Plus, they’re simple and spicy and chocolatey. What more could you ask for?

My unicorn mug

favorites unicorn mug

I’m 99% sure I have posted this mug before, but it makes my day any time I drink from it.

The Blue Jackets

My team is actually doing well(ish), guys! Okay, so a 6-4-2 isn’t winning the Stanley Cup, but it’s also not losing every game. And they scored 10 goals in a game last week. Craziness.

Fun Nerd fact: I wrote one of my UChicago admissions essays about George Will because I think he’s great and he is one of my favorite journalists. I compared his love of the Cubs (who have historically sucked but just won the World Series) to my love of the Blue Jackets (who have historically sucked). So, maybe the Blue Jackets will get their act together and win the Stanley Cup in a couple years and then the parallels will continue and I’ll become as brilliant as George Will. Or… not.

Tempeh + sweet potato fries

I went to Native Foods last night for the first time. I ordered their chopped salad and split an order of sweet potato fries. Frankly, the salad wasn’t stellar, but it was my first time trying tempeh and I like it a lot! I mean, I love my meat, but this is its own thing and it’s freaking tasty.

favorite sp fries

And the sweet potato fries. They’re pretty thin, but somehow super crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I don’t get it, but they’re great.

Dinner with Susie

So this is always a favorite when it happens? But too bad. Susie is great. She’s hilarious and easy to talk to and she gets my patterns and makes me feel like I’m logical and capable even when I’m probably not. Also, she’s a fabulous running coach and knows where the good sweet potato fries are. Oh, and she brought me tea, protein powder, nut butter, and Siggi’s coupons. Suzicorn for president? Is it too late for that?

And that’s all for me for the week. I hope you have a fabulous weekend and I’ll talk to you on Monday!

It's been a weird week, but see how @EllenSlater finds the good in it. #FitFluential #goodvibes Share on X

THAT MUG, THOUGH. Honestly, I’m very much over election talk. I’m doing the best I can to just spread happiness and reduce stress, because I think it’s what we all need right now. If that means NOT talking about the thing EVERYONE s talking about, so be it. There are plenty of places all over to find debate, reactions, and conversation about it – I see nothing wrong with creating a space people can go to avoid it. #mytwocents

Don’t feel bad about not addressing the election in a detailed way Ellen! It’s totally up to you how much you want to say, because this is your blog! 🙂

And I’m so glad you got to go out to eat with Susie. 🙂 I’m sure that was super duper fun.
