Thinking Out Loud #69

in Thinking Out Loud on

Hi! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday. How’s your week going? Yesterday, you got to see a day in my life (I’ll probably show you a few more of those here and there) and you might have gotten the feeling that my week has been a little hectic. You wouldn’t be wrong, and I’ve been eating lots of leftover Baked Egg & Parsnip Nests because they’re delicious… and what is “time to cook”?

Anyway, let’s join Amanda and catch up on what’s happening in my life and mind this third week of the quarter.

Thinking-Out-Loud2

1.) So, you’ve heard about the general awfulness of Topics in American Economic History. And maybe I tried to convince myself that because I was going through it with friends it wasn’t that bad. Well, that didn’t work. After class yesterday, the friends (and I) dropped like flies. There were originally around 35 people in the class and it’s now down to about 15.

I’m still in the process of officially registering (and catching up on almost three weeks’ worth of reading), but I have a teacher’s permission to transfer into her class, Intro to Comparative Politics. It’s an elective for me, which I don’t desperately need, and the catch-up admittedly stresses me out a little, but I don’t actually feel stressed about going to class. Soooo I’m gonna say it’s worth it.

2.) I’m always a chocolate lover, but there’s just not enough chocolate in the world for me this week. It’s become its own food group.

thinking chocolate

And, frankly, my supply is dwindling. Send help chocolate.

3.) The status of my wi-fi is uncertain right now. See, someone came to my room on Tuesday afternoon, played with my computer, and announced that the router in the room was messed up and needed replaced. But yesterday I got an email from someone else saying he had tried to fix it remotely and to let him know if it worked. Well, I’m sitting in my room with wi-fi right now, so maybe it did…? But that’s happened before and it could kick me off in 10 minutes, so who knows.

4.) I started yoga teacher training on Tuesday! It was about three hours of mostly getting to know each other, but it was fun, honestly. I like getting to know new people, and there are some cool ones in my class. Basically, I’m super excited about the next 8 weeks.

5.) When I left for teacher training, no one else was at the apartment, so while I’d mentioned I would be out late a while ago, I didn’t think to remind anyone yesterday. When I walked in at 10:30, one of my roommates said, “Oh, good!” And when I asked what was, she said that there had been mild concern about my whereabouts an hour ago because it was so late. At 9:30. I mean, it is late for me, but you know you’re lame when… ?

6.) My Financial Accounting teacher showed us this video yesterday and we all kinda died.

7.) Until the past week, I’d have told you that I am opposed to long sleeve  T-shirts. Not long sleeve workout shirts or sweatshirts or jackets or sweaters or button-downs. Just long sleeve T-shirts. And if I had to explain why, I’d probably tell you that they seem pointless. Like, they’re just not heavy enough to be truly warm, so why wear them if you’re cold? Put on a sweatshirt. And if you’re warm, why are you wearing the sleeves?

I’m sorry if I sound crazy. Anyway, now I have found a long sleeve T-shirt that I love and I have it in four colors. It’s light enough to put under a big, cozy sweater and actually fits well (which has probably always been the main issue I have with long sleeve T-shirts) and they’ve been perfect for this week of cool mornings and warmed-up afternoons. I’m a convert.

8.) Also, how weird is the word “sleeve”? Just me? Okay.

9.) I have 283245 things to do today, but I also really want to bake. And I won’t be baking this weekend because I have other plans. Hm. Decisions.

10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes + reads from the week.

  • Why choose between pulled pork and pizza? –> Pork & Egg Breakfast Pizza
  • Gimme all the brownies. –> One-Bowl Double Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Brownies
  • You know I’m obsessed with pistachios. –> Power Pistachio Butter
  • Put some effort into your relationship with yourself. –> Dating Yourself
  • Small talk can be meaningful. –> The Introvert’s Guide to Small Talk

What’s your favorite item of clothing?

Are there any words that are just weird to you?

Anything else I should know?

I know what you mean by having lots to do but wanting to bake instead. I some times just forget the to-do list and bake… 😀 And my favorite item of clothing is probably my shorts or sweat pants, but I really love my comfy sweatshirts too.

I hope your teacher training goes well!

Big cozy sweatshirts are my favorite! Thanks, Emily!

As a fellow long sleeve hater, try Target! They have some very comfy ones for cheap. Also, I’m loving the memes and fake vidoes people are making of the debate – I saw a meme the other day that was something like “now imagine them singing ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside.'” Dead.

Ooh thanks for the advice! Ahaha people are so clever. Way to make something positive out of such a messy election.

I LOVE THOSE COCOA NIBS. LOVE THEM. I have issues with them. Like, there aren’t enough in the world. And thank goodness you dropped that class, you would have been miserable. I’m a long sleeve lover. Particularly with thumb holes.

Lolol omg I about died at that video. I definitely prefer that to most of the other campaign stuff that I see. Ridiculous. And SAME with the chocolate!!! Omg I ran out of dark and I’m busting into my baking chips, which just aren’t good enough on the cocoa factor. Send help. Or chocolate 😉

Such an insane election. And I agree – baking chips do okay in a pinch but I need my cocoa!

I’m super lame too don’t worry. I’ve had several friends message me past 12pm and I have to explain to them that 12pm is waaaay past my bedtime and they won’t be getting a response from me that late

so jel you’re doing yoga teacher training! I want to do that in the future. I just haven’t had the time. And I wish had the time to bake! I am craving all the pumpkin things 🙂

    • EllenSlater says

      October 17, 2016 at 9:20 pm

It’s definitely a big time commitment, but I’m loving it so far 🙂 And yes! I need to bake after midterms or something because I want to soooo much – and because I want more chocolatey things around.

A switch that decreases your stress levels is definitely the right switch to make! I’m sure you’ll catch up in no time and be so thankful to be away from that awful “teacher”.

I feel you on the long sleeve shirts – I’m not a fan either as they kind of just confuse my brain 😛
