Thinking Out Loud #31

in Everyday, Thinking Out Loud on

Hey, hey! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! How’s your week going? Mine… well, it could be better. But it’s no big deal – nothing some sleep and friends can’t fix. Anyway, it’s been a long week, so I think it’s time for some random thoughts. Thanks to Amanda for the link-up!

Thinking-Out-Loud2

1.) Remember how I said I was excited about hockey season? Well, the Blue Jackets looked really strong in the preseason and promptly lost the first three games of the regular season. Is it said that I’m already a little less excited.

2.) One of my favorite easy meals lately has been some sort of sweet potato hash. I chop up a bunch of veggies and a sweet potato, sauté them, and top them with a few fried eggs, salt, and a ton of fresh-cracked black pepper. Easy-peasy.

3.) While listening to a podcast on Monday, I realized that I still remember the sequence of numbers the characters on Lost had to enter before they pushed the button.

The numbers

{4 8 15 16 23 42 EXECUTE}

I know it’s a small amount of brain space, but couldn’t I be doing something more useful with it? Like understanding what Karl Marx is saying? (Which I don’t, 70% of the time.)

3.) You know what’s a great way to break up a long week?

care package

A care package! Complete with all the necessities (Justin’s, Milanos, Oreos, Reese’s, and freeze-dried apples), a lovely card, and some Halloween decorations. My aunt is awesome. ❤️

4.) You know you go to a fairly nerdy school when there’s a much greater turnout to watch the presidential debate than the Cubs game. I wouldn’t have it any other way (even though I love sports).

5.) I got a free flu shot yesterday since they offer them around campus a lot throughout October and November. It was spur of the moment, and within an hour I completely forgot I’d done it… until I went to move my arm after lunch. Let’s just say there’s a reason they tell you to try to give your arms some movement after you get a shot. It felt more than a little stiff. But hey, maybe hopefully I won’t get the flu!

6.) I won’t be baking or cooking much this weekend (other plans), but I want to make this this Honey Mustard Pretzel Crusted Chicken, this Peanut Butter Vegetarian Chili, these Pumpkin White Chocolate Seven Layer Bars right now. Ah, well. I’ll make ’em all sometime. (But if you try them first, let me know how they turn out!)

That’s all for me today! Have a fabulous Thursday!

What are your favorite easy meals? Is there anything new you want to try?

Sports or politics? “Both” is a perfectly acceptable answer.

Anything else I should know?

Breakfast looks delicious! I never think of cooking up a hash like that but it’s a good idea!

Your post flue jab arm ache will be worth it! I have been down with flu for the past week and it is not pleasant….

Whilst I adore sports, I am not ashamed to admit an interest in politics too, especially during election build-up.

You said both read an acceptable answer, but what about neither? ? Politics kind of bore me, plus I hate anything that resembles debate, disagreement or conflict, even if I agree, so political debates are definitely not my thing. But I also understand hardly any sports, though if I had to pick politics vs. sports, I’d go with sports and watch soccer, which I think is fun to watch even if I don’t get it. I have watched football before, too, but I’m not a particular fan and don’t get what’s happening like 50% of the time. Just give me the game day food and I’m good, lol! ?

I’m not sure what my favorite easy meals are…I love the riff on Chicken Caeser Salad I make, oh, and Pinch of Yum’s Magic Green Sauce (and I am really looking forward to playing with her sweet potato turkey chili recipe)!! Most of my other favorite meals are actually more complicated, though my sister makes this amazing pan-fried garlic lime chicken!
