Thinking Out Loud #37

in Everyday, Thinking Out Loud on

Hello and happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! The last week has been a little crazy, so let’s catch up via some random thoughts. Thanks for the link-up, Amanda!

1.) Finals week is survival mode. My roommates and I didn’t cook at all and we let everything get way messier than we usually do. Even my desk, which is ordinarily neat and tidy, exploded.

Granted, this was on the day I had two full finals within 6 hours, so I was a little scattered.

Anyway, before I left campus yesterday, I cleaned everything and it was wonderful.

2.) Which means… finals are over for me!

They were not what you would call fun, but they are over, and that’s what matters now. 🙂

3.) My travel yesterday was so weird. How? Well…

4.) I use Uber pretty regularly and love it. But yesterday a car I wasn’t expecting came to pick me up and the driver rolled down the window and said my name, so I just assumed the wrong car was in the system and loaded my suitcase into the trunk. Shortly afterward, I the driver I was expecting called me, asking where I was. Well, I was already on my way to the airport with someone else… who somehow knew my name. It was a little irrational, but I was suddenly really uncomfortable. Additionally, he took a very roundabout route to the airport, so it took significantly longer than I was expecting.

5.) I eventually got to the airport and through security perfectly fine around 4:30. My flight was at 5:45, so it would start boarding around 5:15. I planned to eat an early dinner at the airport, and since I knew my gate was pretty far from the food court, I decided to grab a sandwich at Potbelly before I went to the gate.

5.) Usually, I would’ve just taken my food back to the gate, but I figured it’d be crowded and I kind of wanted a table, so I sat down and enjoyed a messy and delicious turkey and swiss sandwich.

{Okay, so it’s not much to look at. But it was so good.}

6.) After that, I usually would have gone straight to the gate, but I decided I wanted a candy bar, so I went to grabbed a Twix from Hudson News.

7.) I checked in for my flight kind of late on Tuesday night, so I had a less-than-desirable boarding position. I finally went to the gate to ask about upgrading my seat around 5:10. The attendant was really confused. “Uh, your flight is almost done boarding…?”

Wait, what?

Oh, yeah. I always double- and triple-check my flight time. But not this time. I had it in my head that it was a 5:45 flight, and I think it was actually 5:25. Aaaand I almost missed my flight. It was a slightly stressful time. But I made it. And I’m home!

8.) I am so glad this quarter is over. It was wonderful, and probably my overall favorite quarter so far (hopefully I can say that every quarter), but it’s been really challenging. I’m ready for a break.

I hope you have a fabulous Thursday!

Have you ever missed a flight?

Anything else I should know?

Congrats on being done with finals! I’m pretty sure our Potbelly’s doesn’t have as good of breads/wraps as yours. That sandwich looks delicious!

I’ve never missed a flight, though I felt like I was going to once because I’m always super-early, so when I was only about 15-20 minutes till boarding (after standing in the longest checked baggage line ever, trying to calm myself and tell myself I was fine and had plenty of time). ?

I actually just discovered the usefulness that is Uber this last month and loved it! Haha, but I was always paranoid about getting into the wrong car. ? And I’d say your uncomfortable-ness was not an irrational fear…seems to me that’s a healthy fear, as the situation was reasonably, legitimately concerning.

    Have a great rest! ?

Ahhh it was so good. Totally satisfied an ever-present sandwich craving 😉

See, when I have the time straight I am always early. Heck, I sit outside my classrooms for 10 minutes just because I don’t want to be late ever. It was very uncharacteristic of me 😛

      Thanks, Hannah 🙂

Lol, I actually thought that as I was reading it! ?

Omg! Hahaha! I would have had a melt down! That’s why I’m just super early for everything. I get to class at least an hour before even though I don’t have too and even if I’ll be bored…I can’t take chances!

Haha when I have the time right, I’m always early, too! I get to appointments and class early and am usually at the airport like an hour and a half before I need to be. Combine the longer-than-necessary Uber ride with my time mix-up, and my earliness was the only thing that saved me this time :/

Congrats on being all done with finals!! That’s always such a great feeling 😀 And I don’t think your feelings toward the Uber were irrational at all! It’s actually one of the reasons I hate using taxi and car services… I know the instances are super rare, but you hear stories that make you a little uneasy.

Thank you! And yes, very true. I very much value having my own car at home 🙂

Glad finals are over for you! My family and I nearly missed our flight to Rome a few years ago- we were ushered by a security guard to the front of the queue at passport control whilst our names were being announced on the loud-speaker…

Slightly embarrassing but at least we just about made it!

    xx

As long as you did make it, that’s what matters in the end 🙂

That sounds scary about your Uber ride! I’m really glad you’re safe and nothing bad happened.

      It was definitely disconcerting!

Hooray for being done with finals! Best feeling EVER. I finished mine this afternoon and feel on top of the world! I have so much time to do all of the things I’ve been having to put off over the past few weeks!
