Thinking Out Loud #77

in Thinking Out Loud on

Hey hey! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday. How’s the week treating you? Mine has been lovely and relaxing, minus my lack of sleep. I don’t have much in the way of intros for ya today, though, so let’s link up with Amanda and get right to what’s happening in my life and mind this week.

1.) Over the weekend, the weather was truly gross. Cold and icy and not easy to walk in at all. So, when I went to the gym on my own on Saturday morning, I took my dad’s car from the garage to avoid having to walk down the sheet of ice formerly known as our driveway. Driving wasn’t bad. But the parking lot at the gym was also a sheet of ice. I considered driving straight back home, but it seemed like if I was there I should at least get inside. So, with my boot and very little stability, I crouched down and shuffled across the ice.

Yes, it was kinda pathetic. Yes, I got inside without falling. Moral of the story: if you’re on a slippery surface, lower your center of gravity. It helps. #science

2.) I generally see fewer than 5 movies in the theater each year, and most of them happen over Christmas break. On Monday, my dad and I saw Arrival and really enjoyed it. I like movies that make you think, and it has really good acting. And it was one of very few movies my dad said he’d see again.

3.) The next movie will probably be Rogue One. Have you seen it? Thoughts?

4.) I said last week it was happening on Sunday, but my friend’s flight home from Nashville was delayed, so my friends and I had our sixth annual secret santa on Monday night.

thinking secret santa

That picture has changed a lot since we started this tradition during our sophomore year of high school.

5.) I got tons of tea, chocolate, fuzzy socks, and makeup. They know me.

6.) They also tried to get me into Black Mirror. I’m the first to admit it’s good and very well done, but it gave me an unshakeable icky feeling after watching it. I don’t watch TV to feel gross, so I probably won’t be continuing that one.

7.) I got a manicure last night. I usually stick with a French manicure, but I decided to switch things up a little. It was too dark to get a good picture, but I do have this picture of chocolate dipped in almond butter (do it!) to show you.

thinking nails

It’s OPI Romeo & Joliet and I can’t stop looking at my nails.

8.) Last night, my mom and I had dinner with one of my high school friends and her mom. I had my favorite pizza and salad combo and it was glorious.

9.) We’re going to a hockey game tonight! The Blue Jackets are doing so well this season, which is not a thing I’ve ever been able to say. They’ve won ten games in a row. The atmosphere should be excellent. And maybe they’ll even win.

10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes + reads from the week.

  • You know I love my nut butters. –> Roasted Cinnamon Hazelnut Almond Butter
  • All sorts of in love with smoked salmon. –> Easy Smoked Salmon Dip
  • I can relate. –> I Freaked out When I Cut My Hair Short + How to Curl Short Hair with a Flatiron
  • Shameless plug! –> I Tried Meditation for a Week and Here’s What Happened

Your turn:

Do you go see movies in the theater? What have you seen lately?

What color are your nails?

Anything else I should know?

Yay for holiday tradttions with friends you actually like 😀
And yes, I love that polish color on you! It is perfection with your skin tone. I’m giving my nails a bit of a break at the moment. They were doing really well, and now they are kinda brittle.
We are going to see Rogue One on Friday and I’m PUMPED
    Merry Christmas, my dear!

Did you like Rogue One? I thought it was well done, but the end seemed a little unrealistic and/or rushed. And I couldn’t love Jin. But yeah.

Rogue One was really good! It takes awhile to get going imo. I’ve seen all the movies, but I’m not as big of a fan as others, but I left the theater feeling very very satisfied, so that’s saying something! I hope you like it!

I love your nail color, so festive! I’m planning on doing my nails tonight so maybe I’ll get that color 🙂

I enjoyed Rogue One a lot! I had a few minor issues, but I was satisfied in the end 🙂

Right now my nails are white, and I commend you for being safe while crossing the ice. That is TOTALLY more important than looking good and then falling down. 🙂 Being wise on the ice is always important. And … we’re almost done with holiday baking, but I want to do more, so maybe I will. 😀

My motto was “ALL THE BAKING”. I ended up with 8 kinds of cookies and tons of leftovers ?

I very rarely see movies in theaters either. I’d rather watch it at home where I can laze on a couch and have limitless snacks nearby! I do want to see Girl on the Train though!

Limitless snacks always win 😀 I loved that book! I hope the movie is good!

Arrival was so good! Usually I can’t sit still through a 2+ hour movie, but that one kept my attention- I also like movies that make you think! I think La La Land and that new Will Smith movie are the two I am most excited to see next.

La La Land looks awesome! I want to see that, too 🙂

Oof, I’m so boring, haha. I haven’t seen a movie in a theater in over a year, and I don’t own a single bottle of nail polish right now! I loved your meditation article, though–thanks for the app recommendations. I think it’s definitely something that could be beneficial for me!

Arrival is on my list of movies I want to see so I’m glad you said it was good! We saw Rogue One last and I was nottttttt a fan. I was actually kind of glad when I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t feeling it as a bunch of teenage boys in front of us fell asleep and some of our friends who are die hard Star Wars fans said they were disappointed too.

My nail color is au naturale 😉 I never paint my nails… ever!

Love that your friends got you tons of tea, chocolate, fuzzy socks, and makeup. They must know you so well 🙂 I got close to 3 pounds of dark chocolate for my bday total this year from different friends which is obviously a ridiculously huge amount and it was so sweet that they know me so well!
